Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Lightning as a Bottle (LIB) festival?
Lightning in a Bottle (LIB) is a music, art, yoga, and much much more festival. A community campout featuring multiple stages of amazing artists, workshops, renowned yoga and mindfulness instructors, massive art installations, play spaces, and so much more. It is far more than words can describe.
Where is LIB?
LIB takes place lake side at the Buena Vista Lake recreation area near Bakersfield, CA.
What is Lightning Without a Bottle (Lw/oB)?
Lw/oB is a camp that for the last 15 years of the LIB festival has provided a space to camp, be supported, attend meetings, and party hard for the sober community at LIB. We are volunteers, but work closely with the producers of LIB (The Do Lab) to support this community and make LIB one of the friendliest festivals on the planet for sober party animals.
Do I need to be totally sober to camp with Lw/oB?
Lw/oB is not affiliated with an particular sober support community (12 Step or otherwise), though many of our community may affiliate with them back home. Our meetings are open to all and the many varying pathways and definitions of sobriety. That said, THE CAMP IS A 100% SOBER ENVIRONMENT, free from all drugs, alcohol, hallucinogens, plant medicines, and heavy mind altering substances. Our goal is provide the most supportive and safe environment possible, for the most number of people.
Do I need a ticket?
YES! Everyone who attends LIB needs a ticket. Camping is included with all LIB tickets (car camping and RV camping requires a seperate and additional ticket). You can purchase tickets and Car/RV camping passes at libfestival.org (look for a link below).
How do I camp with Lw/oB?
The easiest and best way to stay in the loop on camping with Lw/oB is to join our Facebook Group (see the big button at the top of the this website). You can also sign up for our mailing list if Facebook is not your thing. We will post updates to our Facebook Group and Mailing List as the event approaches to provide a camp registration form. Please make sure that you keep an eye out for that form as pre-registration is required to camp with us (but you do not need to camp with us to attend our meetings). If you are finding us late in game, and the event is rapidly approaching, do not worry. We often have camp space available right up until the last days leading up to the event. You do still need to pre-register, but if you are having trouble getting your hands on the pre-registration form, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org directly and one of our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What's the deal with meetings?
We host 1-2 meetings a day for all days of the festival (morning and evening). These meetings are 1 hour long, and are open to all. Meetings are open discussion, with usually one of our campers kicking things off with an opening share of experience, strength and hope. These meetings have been pivitol in supporting both people new to the sober festival life and those of us who have been rocking the lifestyle for some time. After the meetings it is common that all sorts of adventures are planned :)
Can I Car / RV camp with you all?
Remember, car camping and RV camping require seperate passes no matter whether you camp with us, or elsewhere. We typically can support a small number of car campers and an even smaller number of RV campers. If you plan to car or RV camp with us, make sure you are quick to put in your request. These spaces fill up fast. If you have not previously cleared the ability to car or RV camp with us, we will more than likely have to turn you away back into general camping.
